Damn. This show has taken such a different turn than I was expecting. What started as a silly, somewhat satirical ecchi show has turned into one of the most unpredictable shows of the season. And it was drastic. I wasn't prepared for any of this, or the feels.

I have been doing some thinking, though. The way I see things ending, with how things are going, it will probably end with all the girls "dead" or some alternative, maybe with some fragments surviving and coming together, resulting in a synthesis of a new AI that we're going to have to live with.

Yeah, it sucks, and I hope I'm wrong, but with Mongfa eating shit, it's either that or they all magically come back somehow (or worst case nuclear scenario). I just wanted to have fun.
"I came here to laugh, not to feel."

MarkZ • 1 year ago

Idk why everyone says stuff like that, considering pretty much every episode had impossible to ignore hints that things won't be staying that way and there's more

Kirito • 1 year ago

I thought they just keeps unlocking a memory of asahi and they're real girlz

wrath • 1 year ago

not everyone looks into the specific details like others, they just came to watch a comedy without having to think

I don't think anybody said a twist was unexpected, I certainly didn't, but nobody was expecting it to hit us this hard.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

Idk, i was definitely expecting something like this or even worse from all the foreshadowing

Before the twist had actually started unfolding, there was no way you could have predicted any of this that accurately. Not unless you're a total anime junkie who watches it 24/7. Until episode 6 or so, the hints were too vague to get any tonal indication for the second half of the series from them. Obviously once it started unfolding it became clear what direction it was going in, but no one, including you, would have been able to guess that before the reveal unless you're a literal mind reader.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

To predict it perfectly was impossible, yes, even for the '24/7' kind of person you mentioned... But to predict something along these lines WAS pretty simple. What WAS also DEFINITELY clear is that its some kind of caricature facade and something much more serious is going on, they where very generous with the extremely generic, trope and cliche filled content themed after older dating games, and generous with all the glitches , inconsistencies and fiction too that would point toward it not being real, also a memory of some completely different girl to the main 5... So yeah there where plenty of people saying its some kind of dating game simulation, me included.

>But to predict something along these lines WAS pretty simple
Sure, but you didn't say that. You said you were expecting something much less vague, something much closer to what we actually got. Something "along these lines," isn't equal to expecting "something like this," they're two different values that mean mostly different things. First you were being specific, now you're being vague. At least be consistent so I can know your position. You're not very good at coherent parlance, are you?
And even then, you have to be sabotaging your own enjoyment in the show just to be hyper-analytical enough to piece the pieces together like that. I knew something was up, but I was here to laugh, not to think.

>What WAS also DEFINITELY clear is that its some kind of caricature [façade]
Sure, I agree with that, but that's not a strict guarantee that something like this was going to unfold. There's been anime in a similar vein to this show's first half before that have been total satires of the harem comedy genre, complete with the same lack of logic we saw in the earlier episodes, explicitly designed just to take the piss out of the established tropes and gags. Anime generally takes liberties with logic to the point it's often times a definitive caricature of something, whether it's of an anime or not. Evangelion is basically a caricature of Anno's own mind, let alone the Mecha and toku genre as a whole, and it doesn't take a trained eye to see that. It being a caricature doesn't prove anything.

>something much more serious is going on
Until Aoi's eyes turned red for the first time, there weren't any strong hints that it was very serious.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

"Something like this or even worse" is the exact wording i used, which is definitely still at least semi vague and presents a lot of possibilities. Maybe you just have a limited imagination, but i can name AT LEAST like 10 very different options from the 'like this' part alone, and 10 more for 'and worse' that's definitely pretty vague. Finally, 'like this' doesn't even specify what it means, so there's even more vagueness to the statement (i personally meant the world being fake, as i elaborated on a bit in the previous reply). You're being way too anal about this... Also implying too much of your own perspective on what's fun for other people, and presuming i actually sat around and analyzed anything, when there's really no need, especially with a long history of watching and reviewing shows, writing, and cinema school, all three of which i have. Well, i wasn't, a simple watch is enough to notice and take accent on these things.

Shows designed to beat up and make fun of tropes? Sure, but none of them went out of their way to also make sure to announce something is wrong and something is coming. Japanese are heavy into symbolism, they don't do this kind of stuff out of nowhere and for no reason, and there's definitely a difference in how things look depending on the outcome they want to achieve.

And really? Not until Aoi's eyes turned red? So the digital style square glitches everywhere weren't a thing? How about the MC not understanding what's going on with the world, girls, his own house? The other glitches and changes? The way the world works differently for each heroine when they're the focus (theme change - otherwise normal world for the rest, but for mongfa its suddenly all about cyborgs and tech, for that other one its magical girls and aliens...)? The giant ass onsen granny? Alone they could pass as gags, but tied to the constant glitches and digital style disturbances, the MC seemingly not remembering and understanding stuff, the flashbacks... It was obvious it wasn't about parody, but creating a feel of a caricature bad old dating game that makes no sense, couple that with glitches and you see mc's in some sort of digital simulation crap. In fact i thought all those clues are far too common and obvious, also that they went on with stuff for far too long before dropping the reveal

>Something like this or even worse" is the exact wording i used,
And? That doesn't change the fact you're changing elements of your story as you go along. If you're going to say something, stick to it, don't change things up and say something that means something different.

>'like this' doesn't even specify what it means,
It does. It implies something very close to what you're talking about, while saying "something along these lines," implies a higher degree of variance.
>You're being way too anal about this
Only because you're being too sloppy about staying coherent.

>presuming i actually sat around and analyzed anything,
Cool story, but I never implied anything like that.
>especially with a long history of watching and reviewing shows, writing, and cinema school
Damn, didn't know you were a liar, too.

>but none of them went out of their way to also [blah blah blah]
Your point being?

>Japanese are heavy into symbolism,
Any good artist is heavy into symbolism, the Japanese aren't the exception. If a writer says a door is blue, he's saying it for a reason, Japanese or not.

>And really? Not until Aoi's eyes turned red?
Yes. A visible change of the eyes of a character is indicative to their mental state, as the eyes are the window to the soul, and a change to red usually connotes less than savoury intentions. There was nothing to indicate post-twist tone until that.

>the digital style square glitches everywhere weren't a thing
I legit do not know what you're talking about. I payed attention and saw barely anything of note. There was shit that looked like a stylistic choice, but tons of shows have that kind of surreality look. Are you sure your video quality wasn't just dropping?
>How about the MC not understanding what's going on with the world,
I don't remember Asahi ever failing to understand the world around him, and even then, he reacts fairly naturally to all the strange things happening.
>[the] girls
What does this even mean? At this point, it sounds like you're nitpicking.
>his own house
Really? In a medium where logic is often thrown to the wind, where ad-hoc additions to main character's homes are done about as often as hentai girls don't get pregnant just to support new members of a harem, you think the guy being surprised at his own home changing is noteworthy to focus on?

>The way the world works differently for each heroine when they're the focus
Comedy shows are usually episodic and construct the world differently between each episode. This means nothing. Haiyore! Nyaruko-San has done that for 2 seasons and various OVA, and that show's a masterpiece, and MM! does this at least for half the season. Even then, everything can fit together in the same world, if a little roughly.

>The giant ass onsen granny?
And? There's no need to be so rude.

>Alone they could pass as gags
>but tied to the constant glitches and digital style disturbances,
I was paying attention the entire time and I don't remember seeing constant visual glitches. What are you even talking about?
>MC seemingly not remembering and understanding stuff,
What exactly didn't he remember or understand? Nothing is coming to mind.
>creating a feel of a caricature bad old dating game
What does this even mean?

I'll be honest, the anime did a good job of turning all these tropes on their heads with the twist, but none of this proves anything. You're not bringing up any specific examples that actually prove your point, so as it stands, all I can say is that you're just talking out your ass.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

Jesus christ, i'm not reading all that nitpicking over stuff that doesn't even matter, you didn't catch on all the clues, then you're just inattentive and/or unfamiliar with the Japanese ways of thinking, context and metaphors.

>nitpicking over stuff that doesn't even matter,
Says the guy who brought it up in the first place.

No, you're just a prαt. Everything you used as evidence that something is up only proves your case in hindsight. Tons of shows do the things you mentioned, you nitpick over basic tropes characters do all the time, and using visual elements like glitches is hilarious when lots of shows do stuff like that as stylistic choices. Everything this show does has been done before, the only difference is that it was all a simulation. And if you can't be bothered to continue to engage in a discussion you started no matter how long it gets, that's on you. Guess I win by default, then.

>you're just inattentive and/or unfamiliar with the Japanese ways of thinking, context and metaphors
Nice way of coping while projecting, bro.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

You talk too much about stuff there's not much to say of. Yes i analyze and break stuff up in detail all the time, making big and even huge posts, but i do NOT foam and flail about as i fill page worths about semantics. "Oh, but you said X, but you put it in a way that would suggest Y, and therefore, bla, bla, bla. I said i saw stuff like it being a simulation coming (as did many), and i did, i have posts of it on MAL dated prior to episode 5 to prove it too, all this extra crap about... I don't even KNOW WHAT isn't only worth MY time, its not worth anyone's time.

Discussion? Well, if you like nitpicking the definitions of words and interpret intents, NO, a simple statement about expecting something similar to the twists is no "discussion" nor an invitation to such. The frantic dialogue that followed doesn't fall under any sort of classification but 'random ramblings' either, with plenty of assumptions and accusations your end, which is certainly not a discussion, debate, or even basic constructive civil dialogue. Also a frigging discussion is not something you 'win', lol, you absolute nutter...

Damn, bro, it's just a silly little discussion on the internet, no need to get so frustrated over it. And really, posts on MAL? You expect me to believe that?

MarkZ • 1 year ago

Learn your words, this was no discussion. And yeah, i'd link them too, but why bother, you clearly don't have the two braincells needed to rub together and make use of any of it.

It's a discussion that also happened to be an argument, one that you clearly failed at staying consistent in. But hey, that's why I'm the semanticist and you're not. Suck it, bay-beeeeee! 😎

MarkZ • 1 year ago

This was not a discussion by any measure. Argument? No, that'd suggest argumentation, which is something you're incapable of. This at best qualifies as a quarrel and/or disagreement, so again, go learn some words. And no, you can't win in a quarrel or disagreement with a person who doesn't know you and doesn't give a shit, in fact you lose by default for being a bother. You can 'win' only in an argument or debate, for which you need the mental capacity and tools to participate, even then both sides benefit because the goal isn't 'winning' but being enlightened with better viewed, or cross examination of your views if you decide to keep them regardless... Not that someone as childish as you would understand the value of that. If you want 'wins' go to a competition, just make sure its not one in your own mind again.

>[an argument] would suggest argumentation
>This at best qualifies as a quarrel and/or disagreement
Are you actually stupid? A quarrel is literally another way to say argument, if not just an augmented form of an argument, and a disagreement is the foundation for every argument. If you're discussing opposing ideas, that constitutes an argument. At least know what you're talking about.

>you can't win in a quarrel or disagreement with a person who doesn't know you
Actually you can. It's called making them give up. Which you did. So I win.
>doesn't give a shit,
So prove it. Stop responding then.

>you lose by default for being a bother
Actually, I've had nothing but fun with this, and I love writing no matter what it is, so it's been a win-win for me all round. It's been fun seeing you constantly devolve as I just kept progressively taking the piss out of this. But pretty ironic for you to say so, considering you're the one who started it. Almost like you wanted this.

But just to wrap things up and explain the situation so we're all on the same page, this entire "disagreement" had a heavy semantic import. Your posited that something like the post-twist outcome was easy to predict, character deaths and all since you said "something like this." That implies something very similar to what we got. It's completely at odds with what I was arguing, which can be summed up as what you said being, "something along these lines," implying some similarity, but not the full picture, so a lot of room for variance. Saying the semantics doesn't matter is asinine and ignorant on your part, since by not being exact in your wording, you were basically agreeing with me when you said it isn't hard to expect "something along these lines," so by pointing it out, I was basically helping you, but you post on MAL and your punctuation is sloppy, so what could I expect? But what this really highlights is that if you really were able to accurately predict everything that was going happen, it sure is wild how you completely missed the fact I stopped taking this seriously around 4 or 5 posts ago. So yeah, you're gαy Plays Enter Sandman riff badly

What meds are you on? Just curious

None.
It's your meds you haven't been taking.
I don't actually exist.
It's time to let go. The accident wasn't your fault.

MarkZ • 1 year ago

Accident? Hmm, interesting way to put it, yeah, i guess stepping in a piece of shit could be called an accident, i wouldn't say its much my fault for stepping into you other than not paying attention, but largely the fault of your parents for not cleaning up their shit and unleashing yet another unstable and uneducated individual upon society.

Will say it once again, but get some mental help. apparently im not the only person to think this ._. as you have been called pretty much insane all throughout your profile by multiple people now, so you know damn well you're not mentally sane. 18002414949 is a hotline if you need the resources.. you know this was funny, for a bit.. but after reading through your comment history, and the interaction i had with you.. it's kind of sad :( little bro is so mentally ill it's actually concerning, even for internet standards. take care of your mind, man. you have over 1k comments, and most if not all of them show signs of a serious untreated mental illness.. i feel legitimately bad for you. you seem to really think you're intelligent ._. i see someone who is so damn cut off from reality, they felt the need to get offended over a comment calling a loli ecchi pedo. i really hope you get help man. life is too short to go it entirely upset and angry at the world.

You know, you should have more respect for your parents. That's not a healthy mindset, you have.

Asahi finally called her mongfa and we saw asahi took a punch to save ai when they were kids

Androspam • 1 year ago

I didn't expect it to hit me. I'm pretty sick of this whole AI thing, but still good show

It is really good, though, and I don't see the AI trope that much these days. Stick around until the end if you're invested in the characters, it's worth the watch.

Androspam • 1 year ago

Yes, I finished the show already, a great anime worth to watch
